Notes Fall 2012

Soil is still not right...
Deer love and will eat everything
spray or preen early to get early seed left by the fall weed growing FEST!
Only 2 or 3 soaker hoses per water
Still too much of an angle, add more soil to the West part of the garden

Waiting for the horses head.

I have heard you are not to plant until you can see the horses head on Timpanogos ever since I first moved to Heber.
My philosophy on the subject is... After the horses head is visible on Timpanogos we will not have a hard freeze. This usually is around the 10th of June. If you wait to plant until the 10th of June you will not get a full harvest.
1. Warm your soil with black or clear plastic, or use water wells to warm you soil
2. Protect all delicate plants, because it will freeze and/or snow the first week in June
3. Have your soil ready in the fall, because you are going to need to get your hearty cold loving plants in the ground early.
4. Be prepared with garden blankets, sheets etc... because you will need to cover and un-cover your plants
5. know that it is going to freeze on a night that you will least expect it to
6. watch your neighbors yards and call them if you hear about a freeze
